The regular meeting was held starting at 6:00 p.m.
Board of Education officers for 2025 were elected as follows:
President – Chris Blackledge
Vice President – Kristin Flick
Secretary – Liz Scott
Treasurer – Leon Densmore
Mrs. Scott was appointed as the board representative for the Hanover-Horton Educational Fund Committee Member.
January is School Board Recognition Month. Superintendent Bergstrom expressed her appreciation to the board members for the time and dedication they put in as members of the board. A certificate and gift were given to the board members.
The board recognized those student athletes who received fall athletic awards.
Superintendent Bergstrom presented “Superintendent Spotlight” certificates to students and parent volunteers throughout the district who have shown outstanding effort this school year.
Student Council is planning SnowFest Spirit Week activities. Hallway decorating will take place over the weekend of Jan. 31 – Feb. 2. He-Man Volleyball will be on Feb. 6. The SnowFest ceremony will be held during halftime of the basketball game on Feb. 7, with the dance following on Saturday, Feb. 8.
The board removed the approval of the second reading of the NEOLA Title IX updates, due to a federal court revoking these changes. The second reading of the NEOLA Vo. 39, No. 1 updates were approved.
The board reviewed the first reading of NEOLA EDGAR UGG updates.
Mrs. Melissa Duffrin, Elementary Assistant Principal, presented the board with an upate on the ESSER and 11t grant expenditures.
Superintendent Bergstrom reported to the board members on the following:
• Thank you to board members for serving our community and being supportive of staff and administration.
• Second semester is off to a good start.
• Winter sports are going well. Our cheer team set a new school record for points and is currently ranked #1 in Division 4 standings.
• There will be no school on Monday, Jan. 20 for a professional development day.
• The Strategic Plan Committee will be meeting on an upcoming Saturday to look at Phase 2 of the plan.
• The PTA is holding their annual Daddy-Daughter dance on Saturday.
• Parent/teacher conferences will be taking place at the end of the month.
• The Athletic Booster’s Cash Bash will be on February 1st.
• The Music Boosters are having a mattress sale here at the school on Saturday, February 2nd.
• The boys basketball team will be playing at Little Caeser’s Arena vs. Addison on Wednesday,
February 5th. Tickets will include the Pistons game later that evening.
The board members commented on the following:
• The board appreciates the School Board Recognition Month gifts and certificates.
• The Superintendent Spotlight recognition is very positive. It was nice to see so many here for the student and community recognitions.
• Congratulations to Mr. Densmore and Mrs. Flick on their re-election to the board.
• The Xchange Teen Center has opened for 6-12th grade students twice a week for after school activities.
